Public education professionals in Catalonia will star this Tuesday in a new day of mobilization in Barcelona to demand improvements in their working and salary conditions. The call coincides with two prominent events in the Catalan capital: the start of the University Access Tests (PAU) and the institutional visit of Pope Leo XIV.
The strike has been promoted by the unions Ustec and CGT, who have decided to maintain the protests after the result of the consultation carried out among teachers on the principle of agreement reached with the Generalitat. The proposal was rejected by a large majority of participants.
Intersindical, CNT and COS have also joined the call. According to the convening organizations, 65% of the teachers who participated in the vote positioned themselves against the offer made by the educational administration, which has led to continuing with the pressure measures.
In order to avoid complications for students facing the first day of the PAU, the unions have decided not to schedule actions before nine in the morning. The main mobilization will start at 11:00 a.m. with a demonstration that will depart from Plaza España and travel through the streets of Barcelona until concluding in front of the Parliament of Catalonia.
The protest is part of a campaign of demands that has intensified in recent weeks. Since May, the education sector has carried out a total of 17 protest actions, including specific mobilizations for the 0 to 3 years early childhood education cycle, territorial concentrations, and several regional strikes.
