A train on the Rodalies de Catalunya network derailed tonight on the stretch between Gelida and Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, in the province of Barcelona, after colliding with a retaining wall that collapsed onto the tracks as a result of the heavy rains affecting a large part of Catalonia. The accident has left at least fifteen people injured, including the driver, and has caused the mobilization of emergency services, which have dispatched ambulances, firefighters, and Mossos d’Esquadra personnel to assist the affected and secure the accident area. The Ferrocat railway emergency plan has been activated following the incident, and authorities are continuing to work on evacuating passengers and normalizing rail traffic on that line.

Almost simultaneously, another Rodalies train traveling between Tordera and Maçanet-Massanes, in Girona, was involved in a second derailment caused by the obstruction of rocks that had fallen onto the tracks due to the bad weather battering the area. In this second accident, no serious injuries have been reported so far, and the affected passengers are being evacuated to receive alternative transportation and any necessary assistance.

Today has been marked by heavy rains affecting Catalonia, especially in the province of Girona. The storm has caused several incidents on the railway network, such as trees falling and debris on the tracks, which has forced the suspension of service on several Rodalies lines and the implementation of alternative road transport. Additionally, in other sections, there have been closures, interruptions, and partial diversions to ensure the safety of train operations

These incidents are occurring amid a severe storm that has been affecting a large part of Catalonia for a week, with intense rains complicating land mobility throughout the territory. The bad weather continues to cause incidents in various parts of the territory, which has forced the activation of the FERROCAT plan due to the disruptions on the railway network.
