The spokesperson for Podemos in the Congress of Deputies, Ione Belarra, has accused the Government of Pedro Sánchez of "violating rights" of migrants in Ceuta, in a message linking the situation at the border with complaints published by various media outlets.

"The visit of the kings to Ceuta takes place within the framework of complaints that various media are making about illegal returns that the Government of Pedro Sánchez is carrying out at the border. They are deceptively capturing migrants who arrived in this country seeking a better life to illegally deport them," denounced the also general secretary of Podemos.

Belarra also stated that, according to publications by media such as eldiario.es or Diario Red, "it is the police themselves who are telling migrants that these illegal returns are being carried out within the framework of an agreement between the Government of Spain and Morocco."

Criticism for the Executive's lack of transparency

The leader of the purple party described this situation as "yet another example of the absolute lack of transparency that the Government has had with this terrible situation experienced in Ceuta" and added that it is also "yet another example of how this Government is violating rights at the border," in line with complaints she already made weeks ago about "torture typical of Guantánamo."

At this point, Ione Belarra called what, in her opinion, is happening in the autonomous city a "disgrace" and demanded different measures to address the situation.

Podemos' proposal for Ceuta

"If they want to defend the sovereignty of Ceuta, they already know what they have to do: recognize it as an autonomous community, strengthen public services, the presence of the State," proposed the parliamentary spokesperson for Podemos.

Belarra insisted that it is necessary to "strengthen the presence of the State by guaranteeing rights" and reiterated her call for the recognition of Ceuta as an autonomous community. "Less headlines, less fanfare and more action, which is what the people of Ceuta and the migrants there, whose rights are being violated, need," concluded the deputy.
