During the migratory crisis in Ceuta, many people tried to cross the border by sea, something very dangerous and difficult. So much so, that it has ended up leaving 80 people dead trying to cross the border by sea. The 80 bodies have been received by the Ceuta Institute of Legal Medicine (IML).

According to the Data Integration Center (CID), forensic doctors have performed a total of 79 autopsies, due to the fact that the recovery of the last of the bodies found was carried out late on Wednesday. The Government Delegation in Ceuta raised to 75 on Tuesday the number of migrant people who have died trying to cross into Ceuta from Morocco. However, the maritime service of the Civil Guard has not ceased in the search for all victims.

In addition, the CID has also indicated that the recovery of two of the bodies received by the Institute of Legal Medicine took place on July 29 and 30, shortly before the massive entry of migrants from Morocco. And on the other hand, forensic doctors and the Criminalistics service of the Civil Guard have also been in charge of collecting biological samples and fingerprints from all the bodies found at sea.

Biological samples are collected to be able to cross-reference them with relatives. And also, once the autopsy is performed, the Criminalistics service of the Civil Guard sends the digitized fingerprints for identification. Two people from the bodies that were found have been identified through fingerprints, as they were registered in Spain. In the same way, six other deceased are awaiting identification by biological methods. In any case, the Court has to endorse the identity of these people, whether they have been identified by fingerprints or by biological methods. To identify the rest, fingerprint data will have to be sent to Morocco for possible recognition.
