The president of Ceuta casts doubt on the official figures regarding the migrants in the city, suspecting that 6000 people still remain

Juan Jesús Vivas, president of Ceuta, has stated that he believes there are still 6,000 irregular migrants wandering in the autonomous city since last Thursday, when the massive entry from the border with Morocco occurred. For this reason, he has denounced that with the inaccuracy of the figures, the "notable lack of means" in the management of the migratory crisis has also been highlighted.

"How is it possible that we still don't know the number of people in Ceuta? How is it possible that the people who are here have not yet been identified? How is it possible that the corresponding expulsion files through the Tarajal border and under the provisions of the immigration law have not yet been initiated?", Vivas questioned in an interview on TVE.

According to Vivas, "the verification" that they do not know the precise figures of the people who are still in the city is proof that they are not "putting in place the adequate means to address this crisis situation." As he explained, the city suffered the "social impact" of the massive entry of "80,000 people," also contrary to the data offered this Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who estimated 70,000 migrants had already returned and 2,000 were still in the city.

And regarding minors, Vivas pointed out that they were attending to about 750 in the city's centers until the massive entry last Thursday, a figure that has risen to 1,100, "2,600% above their capacity." "It is an absolutely unsustainable situation," he stressed. In the same vein, Vivas also questioned Morocco's collaboration in the migratory crisis. "I believe that such collaboration has not occurred. Furthermore, I believe that Morocco is not a reliable country," he concluded.

Finally, he questioned the Government's version, regarding the idea that the massive entry of migrants from Morocco was promoted only on social media and through mafias. "Can anyone think that 80,000 people can be mobilized without the local authorities, I mean those of Morocco, perceiving it? Is this possible? The truth is that common sense indicates that it is not possible," he added.
