The Pinofranqueado forest fire in Cáceres in recent days has advanced very favorably, especially tonight. So much so, that all the residents of 11 hamlets in the Cáceres region can now return to their homes, due to the good evolution of the flames during this night, in addition to the positive forecast of being able to declare this fire stabilized throughout the day.

This was communicated by the president of the Junta de Extremadura, María Guardiola, in her appearance after the last meeting of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi) of the Special Civil Protection Plan against Forest Fires of Extremadura (Infocaex). At this moment, around 240 personnel are working on the ground, as well as 21 aerial means, which are trying to cool the perimeter "with the objective at the end of the day of being able to declare the fire stabilized."

These land and air resources that have been working during the last few days, will attack various fronts throughout this Friday, August 21, after very favorable progress has been made during this night. After managing to contain what is considered the "red line," located near the Malvellido river, which runs from west to east through Las Hurdes, these air and land resources will focus on attacking and reducing the risks in this area.

And despite the fire progressing favorably and the situation improving, we must not forget the areas of Horcajo and El Gasco, because their orography complicates access to these areas, which is why it has not been possible to act in these areas tonight. Due to the advances, a new perimeter has been declared, reducing the number of devastated hectares to 4,250, about 500 less than the figure reported on Thursday.
