The Assembly of Extremadura has invested this Wednesday María Guardiola as new regional president with 40 votes in favor and 25 against, in a session that has put an end to months of negotiations and disagreements with Vox. The leader of the PP thus achieves her objective in a second attempt, after a period of tensions with the party of Santiago Abascal that delayed her arrival to the position. The session has concluded with the ovation of the deputies of PP and Vox, certifying an agreement that will allow Guardiola to govern during the next four years.
The investiture comes after weeks of negotiations between the popular party with Vox, marked by public disagreements and changes of stance by Guardiola. Finally, the agreement reached between both formations has allowed to unblock the political situation in the community and guarantee the formation of a new autonomous Executive.
The pact contemplates the entry of Vox into the regional Government, where it will assume key areas such as Social Services, with the rank of Vice-presidency, and Agriculture, in addition to the designation of the autonomous senator. This agreement has been decisive for the 11 deputies of Vox to support the investiture of Guardiola, thus consolidating an absolute majority in the Assembly.
During the debate, the opposition groups, led by the PSOE and Unidas por Extremadura, criticized the agreement between populars and Vox, questioning both the distribution of powers and the political direction the community will take in this new stage. Despite this, the parliamentary majority sealed between both parties has allowed Guardiola to begin her mandate at the head of the Junta for the next four years.
