The Government of the Comunidad de Madrid, chaired by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has allocated only 369 euros to policies of prevention and awareness against gender violence during the first quarter of 2026. The figure, especially low, represents less than 1% of the annual budget foreseen for this item.
According to the known data, the total budget allocated to these policies has suffered a cut of close to 50%, going from 2.4 million euros in 2025 to 1.3 million in 2026. From the PSOE they denounce that, at this point last year, already 44% of the allocation had been committed, which evidences, according to their interpretation, a drastic fall in the execution of spending.
This decrease coincides with the end of European funding from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, integrated into the NextGeneration funds. From the Ministry of Social Affairs, they justify the reduction by stating that these extraordinary resources are not available in 2026, and that the difference, around 1.1 million euros, corresponds to that funding that has not been renewed.
However, the opposition criticizes that the regional Executive has not compensated that loss with its own funds. The PSOE has called the situation a “disgrace”, emphasizing that the Community of Madrid manages a budget of billions of euros and, even so, allocates only 38 million to equality policies and the fight against gender violence, of which more than half come from the central Government and the European Union.
The debate also occurs in a context of increase in complaints of gender violence. According to the General Council of the Judiciary, more than 33,000 women reported situations of sexist violence in the last period analyzed. For the opposition, this scenario demands reinforcing prevention policies, especially in areas such as education and social awareness, while the regional Government defends its management based on current budgetary availability.
