The president of the Community of Madrid, ayusoIsabel Díaz Ayuso, affirmed this Friday that the "battle being waged in Spain" currently involves "communism or freedom," a message she launched on the same day that the Congress of Deputies votes on the housing decrees, which may fall due to the refusal of Junts, and in a context where a possible early election is also being considered.
The slogan "communism or freedom" is not new in the regional leader's discourse; she has used it on numerous occasions, especially during the last regional elections, when she tried to mobilize Madrid residents at the polls against the "ultra-left."
The housing debate, at the center of the message
Isabel Díaz Ayuso herself resumed this argument this Thursday in the Madrid Assembly, when speaking about housing policy and defending that more than 70% of owners live in their own homes, although, she maintained, that home also functions as "their piggy bank."
In that context, she wondered why owners cannot rent out their homes or leave them to their children, and criticized the left's response. "You can't, because you, in a communist way, prefer to snatch properties from Spaniards rather than multiply the construction of supply to lower prices," she lamented.
Criticism of the PSOE and appeal to the polls
The Madrid president also stressed that the PSOE must submit "to the verdict of the polls and the separation of powers," in a speech in which she again closed her message with the same slogan she has repeated on other occasions: "Either communism or freedom."
