Ayuso minimizes Maricarmen's eviction: shifts focus by accusing Sánchez of "promoting the burning of streets" after the protest in front of the luxury penthouse

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, responded this Thursday to the criticism that arose after the eviction of Maricarmen, the 87-year-old neighbor who was evicted this Wednesday from the home where she had resided for seven decades. The Madrid leader defended that the eviction occurred "in compliance with the law" and placed the responsibility on the Government of Pedro Sánchez.

During a forum organized by the Círculo de Empresarios, Ayuso recalled that evictions are carried out by judicial order and pointed directly to the National Police, whose management corresponds to the central Executive. "Yesterday there was an eviction, one of the 25,500 that are carried out every year in Spain, at the hands of the National Police, which is managed by the Government. By judicial order, not for any other reason, it is not our decision, in compliance with a law and laws that this Government and its partners have had eight years to modify, if they did not agree with them," she assured.

The Madrid president used the case to question the Government's housing policy. As she pointed out, the Executive has announced the construction of 184,000 homes during these years, but has not "built any." At the same time, she criticized the state housing law, which she described as "absurd," and maintained that it is contributing to prices "continuing to skyrocket."

"Furthermore, the largest number of evictions is being carried out in Catalonia, Andalusia, the Valencian Community, and at a long distance in Madrid. Look at the inconsistency. For every eviction in Madrid, five occur in the Catalonia of (Salvador) Illa and Sánchez, by the way, buying wills that then don't work," she defended.

Ayuso attacks Sánchez over protests in front of the penthouse

The statements by the Madrid president also came after the protests in front of the Chamberí penthouse acquired by the Community of Madrid. This Wednesday, nearly 10,000 people gathered in front of the property as part of the mobilizations that have taken place in recent weeks. In this context, the Madrid president accused the President of the Executive of "promoting the burning of streets, which is the most dangerous and pernicious for the prosperity of all."

Ayuso has linked these protests to Sánchez's discourse and has questioned why the president is at the United Nations General Assembly while, according to her accusation, he is promoting mobilizations in Spain. "And these protests, since we started September, are becoming more violent. And they will not stop being so. And that is why what we want to warn about is the atmosphere that Madrid residents and all those who exhibit, study, work, live in the Community of Madrid will have to suffer, because they will be prisoners of this situation," she warned.

The Madrid leader has accused the President of the Government of promoting "riots" and has maintained that the mobilizations respond to a strategy directed against her. According to Ayuso, the objective is to "dehumanize and harass" and generate "an unbreathable atmosphere of tension."

In this context, the president has also warned of the effect that, she maintains, this climate can have on business activity and investment. "This climate does not favor investment, it does not provide any security and is the main reason why many companies would gladly go to many other places to bring prosperity," she pointed out.
