Más Madrid calls Ayuso "corrupt" over the 6.3 million penthouse and demands she show the papers: "Impunity ends"

The left-wing opposition has turned this Friday the Chamberí penthouse into the center of the Debate on the State of the Region. Más Madrid and the PSOE have increased pressure on Isabel Díaz Ayuso for the purchase of the luxury home with 6.3 million public euros and have demanded that her Government deliver the complete file of an operation still surrounded by questions.

The public company Planifica Madrid acquired last April the 485 square meter property, with a terrace close to 200, to initially use it as a provisional office for the Presidency during future works in the Real Casa de Correos. The purchase remained outside the transparency portal until it was revealed by the press and the Madrid Government put the property up for sale shortly after.

Más Madrid accuses Ayuso of being "a corrupt person"

The spokesperson for Más Madrid in the Assembly, Manuela Bergerot, has delivered the most forceful attack against the president. "Yes, I tell you to your face, what all of Spain is wishing to tell you. You are a corrupt person," she snapped at Ayuso from the rostrum.

Bergerot has clarified that her criticism is directed at the use of public money and the functioning of the regional Government. "We don't care where she lives, or with whom, or where she has her towels embroidered. What we care about is that she pays for it out of her own pocket, what we care about is that she doesn't rob us," she stated.

The leader of Más Madrid has demanded that Ayuso publish all documents related to the operation. "Tell us where the Planifica Madrid papers are or we will think they are being fabricated as we speak," she warned after recalling that the president avoided expressly mentioning the penthouse during her first intervention in the debate.

The opposition spokesperson also reviewed the different explanations offered by the Madrid Executive about the destination of the property, successively presented as a temporary office, a space for institutional receptions, and a property available for sale. "Which version did you wake up with today? Did you even sleep there?" she ironized.

After Ayuso defended that a regional president can have an official residence, Bergerot has interpreted her words as an acknowledgment. "You are not living in the penthouse at public expense because we caught you," she replied before asking why it was put up for sale if the acquisition was justified.

The opposition leader has demanded that the Minister of the Presidency and head of Planifica Madrid, Miguel Ángel García Martín, explain who promoted the operation and hand over the file before his parliamentary appearance. "Don't sacrifice yourself for your boss. She won't thank you. Pull back the curtain," she told him.

Bergerot believes that the controversy could become the "epitaph" of Ayuso's political career and has positioned the regional elections of May 2027 as the confrontation between "the Madrid of the neighborhoods" and "the Madrid of the penthouses." "We await you in court, impunity ends," she warned.

The PSOE demands Ayuso's resignation

The spokesperson for the PSOE of Madrid, Mar Espinar, has directly asked Ayuso to leave the Presidency. "Seven years doing and undoing as she pleased with the money of all Madrilenians and, when she was going to put the icing on the cake with the penthouse of her dreams, they caught her," she began.

Espinar has defined the operation as "a before and after" and has accused the president of taking Madrilenians for "idiots." "Your gravy train is over and your political career is over. This is your last Debate on the State of the Region. Do yourself a favor and resign," she proclaimed.

The socialist has enumerated the questions that the regional government keeps open. She has demanded to know who ordered the purchase of the penthouse, where the file and the minutes of the operation are, what appraisal was used, and if there is an economic-financial report and a viability analysis that support the outlay.

She has also asked why Planifica Madrid chose a luxury home to set up offices, if someone checked that the property could house that use, and why other publicly owned spaces were discarded. Espinar has also demanded that Ayuso clarify whether she plans to dismiss the company's leadership and her Minister of the Presidency.

The spokesperson has connected the penthouse with the shortcomings of Madrid's public services and has recalled that more than 9,000 women are waiting for an appointment for a mammogram, while protests by early childhood educators, teachers, firefighters, and healthcare professionals continue. In her opinion, the operation portrays the priorities of a government that finds millions for a luxury home while leaving basic needs of the region unresolved.

Ayuso responded by accusing the left of promoting a campaign of "personal harassment" against her and her family. The president denied that the penthouse was intended for her residence and challenged the spokespersons to stake their positions. "If I have lied, I resign. And if you have lied, you resign," she stated. Miguel Ángel García Martín is scheduled to appear next Thursday before the Assembly to explain the purchase.
