The Ayuso Government puts the controversial Chamberí penthouse up for sale for 6.69 million after the scandal

The Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso has put up for sale for 6.69 million euros the controversial luxury penthouse acquired by the public company Planifica Madrid in the Madrid neighborhood of Chamberí. The announcement was published this Friday, just a few days after an operation that the Community of Madrid had until now kept away from public knowledge came to light.

The property is located at number 35 of Paseo del General Martínez Campos and has 481 square meters, a large terrace, and residential use. Planifica Madrid bought it last April for 6.3 million euros, so the Community now hopes to receive about 390,000 euros more than the amount paid then.

The deadline to submit offers will remain open until next September 7. The penthouse will be awarded to the buyer who formulates the best economic proposal, provided that they meet the solvency conditions required in the procedure published by the public company.

The sale comes after several days of changing explanations about the destination of the property. The Madrid Executive initially assured that it had been acquired to hold official "meetings" for Ayuso. Later, it announced that it would dispose of the property and allocate the income obtained to the recovery of the towns affected by the fires in the Sierra Oeste.

A purchase surrounded by secrecy and contradictions

The operation became known months after Planifica Madrid formalized the acquisition. The complete purchase file is still not available on the Transparency Portal, and the public company even demanded confidentiality from the seller before visiting the property, according to information known this week.

The controversy increased when it was confirmed that the penthouse is registered as a dwelling and cannot be legally used as an office. Nor does it currently meet the necessary conditions to become the official residence of the regional Presidency, another possible use that was raised by the regional Government.

The Community has tried to dissociate the operation from any personal purpose for Ayuso. Its Minister of the Presidency, Miguel Ángel García Martín, has defended that the purchase was part of the usual management of Planifica Madrid's assets and that the President did not directly participate in the decision.

The rapid market exit leaves behind the plans that initially served to justify the acquisition. Four months after paying 6.3 million and just a few days after the operation became public, the Ayuso Government is now looking for a buyer to close one of the most controversial episodes of its management this summer.
