The Ayuso Government urges the Government delegate in Madrid to dismantle the Sol encampment and calls its continuation "illegal"

The Madrid Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, urged this Monday the Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, to dismantle the encampment he has described as “illegal” in the Puerta del Sol, and asked for it to be done “peacefully” to prevent it from consolidating.

In statements to the media at the Inmaculada Concepción Special Education Center, in Carabanchel, Rodrigo maintained that it is a situation that affects all businesses in the area, tourists and Madrid residents who want to walk through that pedestrian zone, and stressed that “it is something that should not be allowed.”

The precedent of 15M and the Government Delegation

Jorge Rodrigo urged the Government Delegation to assume its powers and recalled that it was the central Executive, through the Delegation and the National Police, who was in charge of dismantling the settlement in the 2011 precedent with 15M. Therefore, he defended that "now it has to be exactly the same."

According to his analysis, the current “problem” is that neither the President of the Government nor the delegate of Madrid assume their responsibilities, an attitude that, in his opinion, is also repeated in other episodes, such as the DANA in Valencia, the Adamuz railway accident or the blackout. “They do not assume any type of responsibility of any kind,” he criticized.

Criticism of the central Government for housing

The Madrid minister went further and described the situation as a “state problem” that, in his opinion, the central Government must resolve, which he reproached for having been in Moncloa for eight years and for “having done nothing” for housing and, in the case of the region, “has not laid a single brick.”

“What we cannot do is try to distribute responsibilities to everyone when the responsible party is Pedro Sánchez, who has been governing for eight years and has done nothing,” insisted Jorge Rodrigo.
