The PSOE of Madrid has lashed out against the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, for the decision to limit the issuance of the Personal Public Transport Card to people registered in the Community of Madrid and in certain localities of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León. The socialists consider that the measure constitutes discrimination against those who live or work in the region without being registered.
The spokesperson for the PSOE-M, Javier Guardiola, assured this Sunday that the initiative responds to a kind of “national priority,” although “only for Madrilenians,” and criticized the regional Executive for restricting access to a service that he considers essential for thousands of people.
Guardiola also reproached Ayuso for an alleged contradiction between her speeches and her policies. In an ironic tone, he stated that the president has gone from praising messages of welcome and solidarity to promoting measures that, in his opinion, harm students, workers, and migrants who contribute to the development of the region.
From the socialist ranks, they defend that Madrid is an open and diverse community, built thanks to the contribution of people from different places. For this reason, they demand that the regional Government rectify a measure that they consider exclusionary and contrary to the integrating character of Madrilenian society.
The new regulation will not be retroactive, but it will affect the issuance of new personal cards and the issuance of duplicates. From its entry into force, only those who prove to be registered in the territories established by the Community of Madrid will be able to request this document.
