The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday the appointment of Pilar Trinidad as the new Government delegate in Madrid, a replacement that comes after the recent resignation of Francisco Martín, who left the post last Sunday after not being included in the PSOE lists for the general elections on November 29.
The appointment was announced by the Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, during the press conference held at La Moncloa, where she detailed that Trinidad, until now sub-delegate of the Government in the Community of Madrid since December 2023, will now act as the main representative of the central Executive in the region.
Academic profile and university career
Pilar Trinidad holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Extremadura and is a full professor of Public International Law and International Relations. A large part of her professional career has been developed in the university field, where she held various management positions at the Rey Juan Carlos University, including that of general secretary, before joining the Government Sub-delegation.
A replacement amidst political tension in Madrid
The departure of Francisco Martín, who was at the head of the Government Delegation since March 2023, also occurs in a context of confrontations with the Government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the Madrid City Council, over the management of the encampment in the Puerta del Sol and over the criticism of the police charges recorded in the education protests.
The farewell of Francisco Martín
The former Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, said goodbye this Tuesday on the social network 'X' after resigning on Sunday after being left out of the socialist lists for Congress and the Senate. Martín, in office since March 2023, has closed a stage that he defines as "walking a hard and complex, but also exciting path", a journey full of "important advances, many of them now threatened".

In his message, he thanked the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, for his trust, admitting successes and errors "but always pursuing doing things well", and expressed pride in having participated in a project "truly committed to peace, progress, equality and social justice", which, he wrote, "deserves and must continue" and which is also unfolding in Madrid "despite the difficulties".
