The president of the Community and of the regional PP, Fernando López Miras, wondered this Wednesday against whom the general strike called for next November 11 is directed and maintained that, as this type of strikes are raised against governments, he understands that the mobilization is directed against Pedro Sánchez, to whom he attributed responsibility for the housing situation: “It is a general strike against Pedro Sánchez.”
According to the head of the regional Executive, Pedro Sánchez has been in government for eight years and has promoted a state law that, in his opinion, has turned housing into a “luxury and scarce” good that the most vulnerable cannot access. In that vein, he insisted that the call “makes no sense” if it is not against the central government. López Miras also drew attention to the timing chosen for the strike, scheduled for two days before the start of the election campaign, and suggested that the call aims to influence that process. For this reason, he encouraged the unions to “take off their masks.”
Criticism of unions and the housing law
The president of the Community of Murcia considered that the unions “lose credibility” with an initiative of these characteristics and stated that they must give explanations “for calling a general strike to demand access to housing, when Pedro Sánchez is the one who has legislated in the last eight years, with a housing law presented by Bildu, which protects squatters more than owners.”
The popular leader has transferred these accusations to the housing sector and has maintained that the Executive intends to approve “through the back door” two decrees that, according to his version, were already rejected by the Congress of Deputies. López Miras has accused the Government of trying to circumvent the position expressed by the Chamber and has assured that it would be “bypassing the democratic representativeness of the Congress of Deputies.”
In his statements, López Miras linked the protest with the state housing regulations and with the actions of Pedro Sánchez's Executive, whom he held responsible for having promoted a regulation that, in his opinion, has aggravated the problem of access to housing: “A general strike that, of course, makes no sense unless it is against the Government of Spain.”
Possible allegations to the housing decrees
In the same vein, López Miras has questioned the Executive's agreements with EH Bildu and has stated that Sánchez “said no with Bildu” and that, however, “not only is it yes with Bildu, it is that Bildu presented the housing law of the Government of Spain.”
Asked if he would appeal the housing decrees if they are approved in the Permanent Deputation, Fernando López Miras stated that it is a maneuver “in the purest style of Sanchismo.” “Pedro Sánchez is based on lies, on trickery, on deception, and now what he wants to do with these decrees is to be a trickster and deceive,” assured the regional president, in statements in which he again attacked the head of the central Executive.
López Miras added that the best allegation against these decrees “will arrive on 29-N,” and concluded his message by pointing out: “We must tell Sánchez, loud and clear, to leave with his two decrees and make way for Feijóo.”
