The president of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, sees his political position strengthened after a new internal rupture in Vox. Regional deputy Virginia Martínez has left the party and has joined the Mixed Group, a move that decisively alters the parliamentary arithmetic and opens new governance options for the autonomous Executive.
Martínez thus joins José Ángel Antelo, also outside Vox's parliamentary group, consolidating a bloc of non-attached deputies that could prove key. The Popular Party currently has 21 seats, just two short of the absolute majority set at 23, so the timely support of these two deputies would allow López Miras to push through his main initiatives.
Martínez's departure comes accompanied by harsh criticism of Vox's national leadership. In her letter, the deputy denounces a “profound disappointment” with the party's direction and points to the existence of “disorganization,” “lack of criteria,” and “absolutely unnecessary internal conflicts,” evidencing the internal crisis the party is going through.
Furthermore, he charges against the party leadership for “accumulating positions to receive extra salaries” and for “expelling talented figures”, in a direct criticism of the strategy promoted from Madrid. These statements reflect an internal fracture that weakens Vox's position in the Region of Murcia.
This new scenario represents a relief for the regional Government, which during the legislature has had to negotiate with Vox under conditions largely set by the national leadership. The dependence on decisions made by the party apparatus, led by Santiago Abascal, had complicated the approval of key measures.
With the new parliamentary configuration, López Miras's Executive gains room to seek alternative support and avoid blockages. This formula was already used in the last legislature with dissenting deputies from Ciudadanos, which reinforces the viability of this political path.
Among the pending issues stand out the approval of the 2026 Budgets and the reform of the Mar Menor Law, two initiatives that had been stalled by Vox's demands. With the new correlation of forces, the regional Government now has a greater capacity to try to push them forward without directly depending on Abascal's party.
