This Wednesday in Peñíscola, a new fire has been declared. A few meters from a new parking lot and in a location close to Peñismar, the fire has mobilized six units of the Castellón Provincial Firefighters and three aerial units from the Generalitat.
The fire started first in a car and later spread to other vehicles and also to the vegetation in the area. Fortunately, apparently, the forecasts are positive and according to municipal sources, the fire is already perimetered, due to the rapid action of aerial means. The fire started around 2:30 p.m. in a plot located next to the Peñismar area. As reported by the Provincial Fire Consortium, several people have been injured and medical services have moved to the scene to attend to them.
Six fire brigades and a command unit, in addition to a helitransported brigade, are participating in the extinction efforts. A helicopter and two planes are working in the air, carrying out water discharges over the affected area. In total, the fire that originated in a vehicle, has ended up spreading to 33 other cars, causing injuries of various degrees of consideration to several of their owners in Peñíscola, despite the fact that the total number of injured is still unknown since health services are still working in the area.
In addition to this, this fire has occurred on a particularly significant day, especially in Peñíscola, since this place was one of the nine official points in the Valencian Community enabled for the observation of the total solar eclipse. The fire has been declared in an urban-forest interface environment, where buildings and urbanized spaces are close to land with vegetation. For this reason, the intervention of aerial means is added to the ground device deployed to try to contain the fire and prevent it from continuing to advance through the area.
