The forest fire declared last Thursday in Segorbe (Castellón) remains stabilized since Sunday, although emergency services resumed work on the ground this Tuesday to prevent the fire from reactivating. The fire, caused by a lightning strike during a storm, has affected about 630 hectares of land, mainly within the Sierra Calderona Natural Park.
During this day, three units of Generalitat forest firefighters, two fire engines, two brigades from the Provincial Fire Consortium of Valencia, two rural brigades, and a special unit of forest firefighters from the Provincial Consortium of Castellón are participating in the control efforts. The operation seeks to secure the perimeter and monitor possible hot spots after several days of the fire's evolution.
The situation has allowed for a return to some normality in Gátova (Valencia), where the confinement affecting residents was lifted on Monday and the CV-25 road, the main access route to the municipality, was reopened. Residents evacuated on Friday were able to return to their homes, although forest tracks and trails remain closed and access to them is prohibited. The Emergency Coordination Center maintains level 1 of the Special Forest Fire Plan of the Valencian Community active and asks for extreme caution in areas near the perimeter.
Of the approximately 630 affected hectares, about 400 correspond to the municipality of Segorbe and around 235 to Gátova, all within the natural area of the Sierra Calderona. Authorities continue to monitor the evolution of the fire and ask the population to continue following the instructions of emergency services and Civil Protection.
