The far-right fills Ceuta with hoaxes using videos from Turkey and Toulouse and a fake neighbor forced to host migrants

Ceuta is going through a real migratory emergency. Tens of thousands of people crossed from Morocco during the last days of July, dozens died in the attempt and the city's resources were overwhelmed. This reality has been accompanied by an avalanche of fake videos, old photographs and unsubstantiated accusations that have multiplied the fear.

The far-right ecosystem has found in these images material to reinforce its narrative of "invasion" and spread the idea that the authorities have completely lost control. Some of the content comes from anonymous profiles and it is impossible to know its exact origin, while others have been disseminated by ultra channels such as Desokupa or 'EDA TV'.

One of the first hoaxes presented a crowd walking through a mountainous area as thousands of people descending from Morocco towards Ceuta. The message claimed that this was what was arriving "right now" at the border and asked to share the images to show the supposed invasion.

The recording belongs to a religious procession held on July 5 on Mount Cudi, located in the Turkish province of Şırnak. It had been published several weeks before the massive entry and the people appearing in it were heading to a religious festival.

Another video showed several young people overturning containers and causing damage in the middle of the street. The images circulated accompanied by messages questioning whether those acting in this way could be considered refugees and placed them in Ceuta after the crossings from Morocco.

Those streets were not those of Ceuta either. The scene was recorded in Toulouse on the night of May 30-31, after Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League. The video had been online for two months when it was recovered to attribute the disturbances to newly arrived migrants.

An even more outlandish story garnered over 115,000 views on TikTok. A man claiming to live in Ceuta asserted that the Government had forced him to house twelve Moroccan migrants in his home under threat of a fine.

The story was a fiction published by an account dedicated to humor and entertainment. The same user later claimed he was on vacation in Ceuta and had been expelled from his hotel to accommodate migrants. In another recording, he attributed this supposed expulsion to having eaten and drunk too much. The three versions contradict each other.

Disinformation has also reached returns. From Desokupa's circle, alleged "confidential information from a direct source" was spread, according to which the Government Delegation had ordered the Police to stop all expulsions and allow migrants to remain in the city.

The video lacked documents, names, or any other evidence to support the accusation. The Government Delegation has denied the existence of such an order, and its head in Ceuta publicly announced that files would be expedited to execute returns. Interior estimated this Tuesday that 70,000 people had already returned to Morocco out of approximately 72,000 who entered.

The Supreme Court's ruling has also been distorted to present it as an authorization to freely enter Spain. The judgment establishes that the immediate border rejection provided for those who overcome a physical fence cannot be applied in the same way to people intercepted while swimming across.

The Supreme Court mandates processing the ordinary return procedure, which can be executed within a period of up to 72 hours. The resolution also does not grant residency permits, automatic access to the Peninsula, or freedom to circulate in Europe. The Government has installed a physical barrier in the sea to adapt the border device to the judicial interpretation.

Political attacks have also used a photograph of several ministers and former socialist officials at the Moroccan Embassy. 'EDA TV' and other accounts presented the image as a party held while the massive entry was taking place and even spoke of "high treason."

The photograph was taken during Throne Day in 2025. Images published about this year's reception show only the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, among the members of the Government. Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Elma Saiz, and Carmen Calvo appear in the old photograph reused to attack the Executive.

The crisis also does not allow automatic travel from Ceuta to the Peninsula. The city maintains a special regime within the Schengen area and there are documentary controls at its maritime and air exits. Entering Ceuta irregularly does not grant the right to remain in Spain nor does it open a free route to Europe, no matter how much the far-right continues to spread exactly that message.
