The living room decoration is changing and the walls are starting to gain more prominence. Although mirrors and paintings are still common options for decorating a house, new interior design trends opt for natural materials, reliefs, and elements that add volume without the need to fill the walls with objects.

This new way of decorating seeks to create more welcoming and personal spaces. Instead of hanging several paintings or placing a striking mirror, the proposal is to use the wall itself as part of the decoration, through textures, wood, fabrics, and plants. According to trends gathered by specialized decoration media, the goal is to achieve living rooms with more personality and less cluttered. It does not mean that all mirrors and paintings should be removed, but that there are other alternatives to renovate a room without changing all the furniture.

What decoration trends are replacing paintings and mirrors in the living room?

One of the main novelties are decorative textured coverings. This involves covering or decorating walls with materials that have relief and create different light and shadow effects. This option allows giving personality to the living room without resorting to classic framed paintings.

Another alternative are tapestries and handmade textiles, made with materials such as wool, linen, or natural fibers. These pieces add volume and a sense of warmth, so they can fit especially well in living rooms with simple furniture and neutral tones. Wood panels and walls with vertical slats are also gaining prominence. In addition to giving a modern look, they help create a more welcoming atmosphere. To achieve a balanced result, they can be combined with light walls and simple-lined furniture.

Finally, vertical gardens and plant compositions allow incorporating nature into home decoration. Plants add color and freshness, although it is important to choose suitable species for indoors and ensure they receive enough light and ventilation.

How to decorate the walls of the house to make them look more modern?

To update the living room walls it is not necessary to undertake a complete renovation or spend a lot of money. One option is to choose a single wall and turn it into the main focal point of the room with a wooden panel, an embossed covering, or a composition of natural fibers. Colors also help to achieve a more contemporary atmosphere. Beige, sand, brown, and soft green tones combine well with wood and natural materials. Additionally, indirect lighting can highlight textures and create a more pleasant feeling, especially at night.

Another recommendation is to avoid filling all walls with decorative elements. Leaving some free spaces helps materials and furniture take center stage and prevents the room from looking too cluttered. In the case of vertical gardens, it is advisable to plan maintenance well to avoid humidity problems. If there is not enough natural light or time to care for plants, compositions of plant fibers or other natural decorative elements can be used.

In short, new decoration trends opt for walls with personality, natural materials, and more welcoming spaces. Mirrors and paintings are still a valid option, but they are no longer the only way to transform the living room and give it a modern style.
