The general elections on November 29 are getting closer and many citizens still have doubts about where they should vote. One of the most frequent questions is what happens when a person moves and changes their registration shortly before the elections.

The answer depends on when the change of address was made. For these elections, the electoral roll closed on August 1, 2026. For this reason, changes in registration after the closing date are not taken into account when assigning the polling place.

This means that people who have registered in another home or municipality after that date will generally have to vote in the place that corresponded to them before moving. On the other hand, those who updated their data before the census closed will be able to vote at the polling station corresponding to their new address. Therefore, being currently registered at an address does not guarantee that this will be the place where they will have to vote on 29N. The most important thing is to check the data that appears in the electoral roll for these elections.

How can I find out where I have to vote in the 29N elections?

To find out where to vote on November 29, citizens can consult their polling station and the table assigned to them through official channels. One option is to access the Electronic Headquarters of the National Institute of Statistics (INE). To consult personal registration data in the census, it is necessary to identify oneself using the Cl@ve system.

You can also use the INE's polling station and electoral premises consultation service, which allows you to search for the polling place from an address without needing to identify yourself. Another way to check this information is to review the census card that is sent to voters by postal mail. This document shows the address of the polling station and the table where they should vote.

If there are doubts about the census data, you can also go to the corresponding town hall or contact the Electoral Census Office.

What happens if I have registered in another city or moved house?

People who have recently moved should be aware that a change of address does not automatically modify the polling station for the November 29 elections. For example, if a person lived in one town and registered in another after the census closed, they will have to check their electoral assignment, as they might have to travel to their previous municipality to vote.

The same applies to those who have moved within the same city. If the change of address was registered after the deadline, they may have to go to the polling station corresponding to their old address. Therefore, it is advisable to check the polling place in advance and not wait until the last minute to organize the trip. If the census data is incorrect, it is recommended to consult with the Electoral Census Office about available options, although the ordinary period for claims for these elections has already ended.

The general elections on November 29 will be held between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM. To vote, citizens must identify themselves with a DNI, passport, or driver's license that includes a photograph.
