The director of 'ElConstitucional.es', Hugo Pereira, celebrated this Thursday the judicial advance achieved by Sarah Santaolalla and has demanded that the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, rectify his defense of Vito Quiles. "He should apologize for calling him a journalist," he stated on 'Noticias de Verdad'.
Pereira recalled that Feijóo referred to the ultra agitator as "a colleague of his" when asked by journalists after the incident with Begoña Gómez. "I don't know any fellow journalist who has a restraining order against a person to whom he supposedly only asked questions," he replied.
The journalist rejected that pursuing a person to their home can be presented as a way of asking uncomfortable questions. "What this judicial decision demonstrates is that he doesn't ask questions, he doesn't do journalistic work, he does harassment work," he defended.
A precautionary measure while the case continues
The Provincial Court of Madrid has partially upheld Sarah Santaolalla's appeal and has prohibited Quiles from approaching within 500 meters of her home. It has also prevented him from calling her or sending her messages, except when the contact responds to strictly professional reasons.
The court has also ordered that the investigation continue to determine whether the reported conduct may fit the crimes of coercion or harassment. The resolution finds evidence that should continue to be investigated and considers that the repetition of the reported acts allows for an objective situation of risk to be appreciated.
The measures are precautionary and do not amount to a conviction. They will remain in force until the statements of the witnesses requested by Santaolalla's defense are taken, while the investigation remains open.
