The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, will return to Madrid next week to participate in the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, which will be held on November 4 and 5. His visit comes just weeks after his last trip to Spain, in which he again harshly criticized the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with insults and personal disqualifications.

The Casa Rosada has confirmed the trip to the Argentine channel TN, although all the details of his agenda are not yet known. It will be a new visit by Milei to Spain, where he has so far avoided holding a bilateral meeting with Sánchez, despite his repeated trips to the country.

Milei returns to Madrid after his attacks against Pedro Sánchez

Javier Milei's last visit to Madrid lasted less than 48 hours, but it was marked by his statements against the President of the Government and his meetings with representatives of the Spanish right. The Argentine president arrived in the capital on October 20 and, the next day, participated in an informative breakfast organized by Nueva Economía Fórum, where he called Pedro Sánchez "unpresentable dictator", "corrupt" and "authoritarian Pedrito". He also called for the socialists to be "kicked out" of power.

During his stay, Milei met with the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, at the facilities of Canal de Isabel II. The meeting, which lasted about two hours, was held behind closed doors and without media attention. Ayuso received the Argentine president with a hug and told him that Madrid was his home. His agenda also included a visit to King Juan Carlos University, where he participated in an academic event related to the Austrian School of Economics. His presence provoked protests from students and members of the university community, who questioned both his invitation and his policies.

In addition, the Argentine president went to the headquarters of the Disenso Foundation, linked to Vox, where he was received by the party's general secretary, Ignacio Garriga, and its director, Jorge Martín Frías. Although he did not meet in person with Santiago Abascal, both held a video call. During the conversation, which Milei's own entourage disseminated on social media, the Argentine leader joked about "kicking leftist asses," in reference to his attacks against the left. Abascal, who was campaigning outside Madrid, congratulated him on his speech.

The visit was also marked by his statements against the media. Milei lashed out at journalists and even insulted a journalist from Cadena SER. The Federation of Associations of Journalists of Spain (FAPE) condemned the attacks.

Lula is absent from the summit and tension grows between Argentina and Brazil

Milei will not be the only protagonist of the event. The president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, will not attend Madrid due to agenda problems, according to sources from the Brazilian Presidency. In his place will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira. Other leaders have also confirmed their absence, such as the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele; the president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, and the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega. For the moment, the attendance of the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, remains unclear.

Lula's absence also comes at a time of diplomatic tension between Brasilia and Buenos Aires. The reason is the departure from Brazil of Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who used Argentina as a stopover on his trip to the United States. Argentine immigration authorities confirmed that Flávio Bolsonaro and his family entered the country through the province of Misiones, via the Puerto Iguazú border crossing. Shortly after, they took a private plane to Ecuador before continuing their journey to the United States.

Argentine justice is now investigating the operation after a complaint points to a possible collaboration of officials. For its part, Milei's Government maintains that Bolsonaro's entry and exit were carried out regularly, since there was no Interpol alert or restriction against him.
