Death threats against Spanish journalist Roberto Macedonio from Venezuela: Diosdado Cabello and the Bolivarian Navy point him out

Spanish journalist Roberto Macedonio, 'NTN24' correspondent in Washington and director of 'Club de Prensa', has denounced a chain of accusations from official bodies and high-ranking Venezuelan officials that has culminated in explicit death threats against him and allusions to his family on social media.

One of the most serious episodes occurred on Instagram. According to the complaint, the official account of the Bolivarian Navy disseminated a video in which it singled out the journalist and called to "eliminate the media scum". A particularly worrying language given that it comes from a military institution and targets an information professional.

Macedonio also claims to have been publicly singled out by the Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, one of the most powerful leaders of Chavismo, and by the Minister of Communication and Information, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela. Their messages sought to discredit the correspondent's work after his investigations into Venezuelan power structures and the country's political situation.

Threats moved to the United States

After this exposure from official accounts, Macedonio began to receive messages with death threats, insults, and direct references to his family. The journalist has compiled the publications and has brought the facts to the attention of the US authorities, given that he resides and works in Washington.

The denounced persecution comes from a country where 'NTN24' has been suffering institutional censorship for more than a decade. Nicolás Maduro's government ordered the withdrawal of its signal from Venezuelan operators in February 2014, after the channel's coverage of student protests. Since then, the network has maintained its information about Venezuela through its digital platforms.

The case occurs during the political transition led by Delcy Rodríguez, while central figures of the Chavista apparatus retain significant shares of power. Cabello remains at the head of the Ministry of Interior and maintains broad influence over the security forces and official political structures.

Macedonio directs and presents 'Club de Prensa' from Washington, a space for debate and analysis on current Latin American and US affairs. The program received the King of Spain Award in 2015 and an Emmy in 2018. The threatening messages and references to his family are already part of the complaint submitted to the US authorities.
