Donald Trump explodes against Iran after attack on ship in Hormuz: "A stupid violation of the agreement"

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has accused Iran this Friday of violating the ceasefire after a drone attack against ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most sensitive maritime routes on the planet. The incident directly hits the preliminary agreement signed just a few days ago between Washington and Tehran to reopen the passage and de-escalate military tension in the area.

Trump has stated on Truth Social that the Islamic Republic of Iran launched “at least four attack drones” against ships crossing Hormuz. According to his version, one of them impacted the upper deck of a large cargo ship, which suffered damage but was able to continue its route. Three other drones were shot down by US forces. “Obviously, this is a stupid violation of our ceasefire agreement,” the president wrote.

The attack occurred on Thursday against a cargo ship in waters near Oman, with no known casualties so far. The UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency urged caution to vessels transiting the area. The International Maritime Organization has also temporarily halted its mechanism to facilitate the departure of ships and crews trapped in the Gulf, pending a review of security guarantees.

Hormuz thus returns to the center of the crisis. A key part of the world's oil passes through this corridor, and any incident escalates pressure on the energy market, maritime insurers, and trade routes. The memorandum signed by the United States and Iran on June 18 sought precisely to ensure the transit of commercial vessels, lift part of the US blockade on Iranian ports, and open broader negotiations on the nuclear program.

Trump's accusation also comes amid a full exchange of warnings between Tehran, Washington, and Israel. The Iranian Army had hours earlier denounced the presence of Israeli military aircraft in neighboring countries and had asked the United States to restrain Benjamin Netanyahu. Iran maintains that these movements pose a direct threat and warns that it reserves the right to respond if it feels attacked.

The ceasefire was already affected by Israeli attacks in Lebanon, despite the memorandum including the cessation of military operations on several fronts. Trump's new accusation adds another piece of tension to a fragile negotiation, with Washington demanding free passage through Hormuz and Tehran arguing that the security of the strait must remain under its own conditions.
