Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has stated that she has the support of U.S. President Donald Trump, "for the freedom of Venezuela," following a closed-door meeting held at the White House.
Machado, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, emerged from her meeting with Trump stating that the US president understands the Venezuelan situation and is committed to the liberation of the Venezuelan people and political prisoners. "We are counting on President Trump for Venezuela's freedom," she declared after leaving her meeting at the presidential residence in Washington.
Symbolically, Machado has gifted his **Nobel Peace Prize medal** to Trump as recognition for what he considered his "unique commitment to freedom," although he did not specify if Trump accepted it.
