The president of China, Xi Jinping, and the head of the Spanish Executive, Pedro Sánchez, have staged this Tuesday in Beijing a clear political harmony during their meeting in the Great Hall of the People. The Chinese leader has stated that both countries are “on the right side of history,” in an international context marked by instability and conflicts.

Both China and Spain have principles and advocate for justice, and we are willing to be on the right side of history”, Xi stated at the beginning of the meeting, emphasizing that the current world is going through a “changing” moment full of “turbulence”. In this regard, he warned that the international order has been “undermined” and rejected a return to the “law of the jungle”.

The bilateral meeting is part of Sánchez's official visit to China, the fourth in recent years, which, according to Xi, reflects the good moment of relations between both countries. The Chinese president celebrated that this bond has not only strengthened, but has also contributed to providing “stability between China and the European Union”.

For his part, Sánchez has defended the need to act jointly in the face of major global challenges. “So that together we find ways to strengthen the multilateral system and international law,” he affirmed, warning that these principles are being “undermined recurrently and very dangerously.”

The President of the Government has also referred to international conflicts, advocating for cooperation to find solutions: “In part, Mr. President, that's why I am here,” he pointed out, in allusion to wars, commercial tensions, and environmental and social challenges.

During his speech, Sánchez highlighted the role that China and the European Union can play if they strengthen their understanding. In his opinion, greater cooperation between both powers would have a direct impact on “peace, stability, and prosperity in the world”.

The head of the Executive has also wanted to convey a message of confidence about Spain's role in this international context. “Spain will rise to the historic challenge,” he assured, adding that the country will act with “courage,” will be “clear” and “predictable” in its foreign policy.

In the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, also participated, and Sánchez conveyed to Xi the greetings of the Kings of Spain reinforcing the institutional tone of a visit focused on strengthening political and economic cooperation between both countries.
