Portugal brands Spain's "lack of regulation" for the migratory crisis in Ceuta and accuses it of being able to provoke a "pull effect"

Luís Montenegro, Prime Minister of Portugal, has criticized the migratory policies of the Spanish Government, following the crisis of these days in Ceuta, to which he has reproached the "lack of regulation" to address this phenomenon, which "often has a pull effect". "These days we are witnessing incredulously the lack of rules, of regulation, for migratory flows, in which some insist on adopting policies that often have a pull effect, they call them without providing the conditions to welcome and integrate them," Montenegro remarked.

A clear reference to the Government of Spain that, unlike Portugal, is not doing "what should be done", as the prime minister said this Tuesday, during the inauguration of the country's first private family health unit, in the Lisbon municipality of Torres Vedras. "In Portugal we are doing what needs to be done. We are creating conditions for people to have dignity when they arrive in Portugal," highlighted the minister, who sets these terms as "having a job, housing, and access to health, education, and mobility."

Due to everything that happened, this Tuesday, the EU Interior Ministers met to address what happened and agreed to reinforce borders and response measures to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. In the same way, and amid criticism of Spain from some European partners such as Italy and some of the Nordic countries, Brussels also stressed this Tuesday that they do not see "a direct link" between regularization policies and what happened last week in the autonomous community of Ceuta.
