This Monday, on the third day of Pope Leo XIV's visit to Spain, the pontiff and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will meet at 9:30 AM at the Apostolic Nunciature. The meeting will focus on the discussion of three topics: international cooperation, the social agenda, and migration.

Subsequently, he will go to the Congress of Deputies, where he will deliver a historic speech which is expected to position itself in favor of the migratory policies carried out by the Executive, as we reported in this newspaper. According to sources linked to the organization of the trip consulted by ‘ElConstitucional.es’, he “will explicitly endorse” positions close to those maintained by the Sánchez Government on migratory matters, thus distancing himself from approaches such as the principle of “national priority” defended by agreements reached between PP and Vox in some territories of the country. This position coincides with that recently expressed by the Spanish Church and organizations such as Cáritas, which have rejected linking social assistance to people's origin.

The trip also has a strong symbolic charge. As Yago de la Cierva, coordinator of the papal visit, explained to this media, Leo XIV has decided to resume one of the great projects that remained pending after the death of Francisco: making the migratory crisis in the Canary Islands visible. The previous Pontiff had expressed his intention to travel to the archipelago to put international focus on the Atlantic route, considered one of the most dangerous in the world.

Finally, today he will meet with victims of sexual abuse by the Church. However, at the gates of the Embassy of the Vatican, there is a group of abuse victims, belonging to eight associations that are protesting against the pontiff's visit.
