The Spanish Government has expressed its rejection of the order by the Army of Israel to evacuate the civilian population from southern Lebanon, a measure it considers contrary to international law. Through a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that the order constitutes a disproportionate measure that aggravates the humanitarian situation in the area.
The department led by José Manuel Albares has indicated that Spain expresses its “total rejection of the illegal and unjustified order by the Israeli Army for the evacuation of the civilian population south of the Zahrani River”, stressing that it is a measure “totally disproportionate and contrary to international law”.
The government's reaction comes after the Israeli Armed Forces extended the evacuation order issued for southern Lebanon, now including areas located to the north and asking residents to move to areas further north.
At the same time, Spain has condemned the attacks launched by the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah against Israeli territory, which it refers to as “indiscriminate” attacks that contribute to increasing tension in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also stressed that these attacks can provoke a new escalation of the conflict and more suffering for the civilian population, while reiterating its support for the efforts of the Lebanese Government for the State to maintain the monopoly of force within the country.
Finally, the Spanish Executive has insisted on the need to de-escalate tension in the area and to respect international humanitarian law, stressing that the protection of civilians must be a priority in the current context of clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.
