The toll from the two earthquakes that have shaken Venezuela continues to grow with the passing hours. Venezuelan authorities now raise the number of fatalities to 188, 1,520 injured, and around 200 missing after the 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude quakes recorded this Wednesday. La Guaira, north of Caracas, appears as the most affected area, with dozens of collapsed buildings, thousands of displaced families, and at least 250 structures affected or destroyed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has confirmed that there are 68 Spaniards still unaccounted for and has asked Spanish citizens in Venezuela to contact the Embassy or Consulate through the consular emergency phone numbers. Among the fatalities is also a Spanish-Venezuelan citizen, according to the latest available information.

The emergency has led to the closure of Maiquetía International Airport, forcing the suspension of connections to Caracas by companies such as Iberia, Air Europa, and Plus Ultra. Meanwhile, rescue teams are working against the clock among the rubble, with more than 200 people located under collapsed structures and a forecast of new updates in the coming hours.

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has spoken with Venezuelan President, Delcy Rodríguez, to convey Spain's solidarity and activate aid. This Thursday, a plane departs with urban search and rescue teams from the Military Emergency Unit (UME) and the Immediate Response Team of the Community of Madrid (ERICAM), in addition to personnel from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) to assess needs on the ground.
