The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has assured that the military offensive against Iran is near its end and has placed its conclusion within a period of “two or three weeks”, after considering the main objective of the operation fulfilled: prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
Trump maintained, however, that the attacks would continue in the short term to finish off Iranian military capabilities before a withdrawal. “We are finishing the job, and I think we will achieve it in about two weeks, maybe a couple more days,” he said, in reference to the progressive withdrawal of American troops.
The president also assured that the operations have had a decisive impact on Iran's military apparatus. In this regard, he defended that US forces have severely hit key targets, including missile facilities, which would justify the imminent end of the offensive.
He also pointed to a different political scenario in Tehran after the military campaign, stating that a “regime change” had occurred, although he clarified that it was not an initial objective. Even so, he described the new leadership as “much more reasonable,” in a context where Washington is exploring possible avenues for understanding.
