Alleged killer of Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte arrested in Mexico

Five days after the murder of the Spanish student Claudia Tacoronte Aguilera, Mexican authorities have arrested the man identified as the alleged perpetrator of the crime. He is Francisco Javier "N", known as "El Trompas", who would have been identified by investigators as a suspect in the murder of the young woman, which occurred last Saturday in the municipality of Cuautla, in the state of Morelos.

The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed the arrest through a message published on X, accompanied by a photograph of the detainee. The head of Security did not specify the exact place where the capture took place. According to information released by the authorities, various federal and state bodies participated in the efforts to locate the suspect.

The family travels to Morelos to repatriate the body

Claudia Tacoronte's family is scheduled to arrive in Morelos this Friday to begin the necessary procedures for the repatriation of the young woman's body. The state governor, Margarita González Saravia, has indicated that authorities maintain "direct" communication with the Spanish consul in Mexico, Marcos Rodríguez, with the aim of facilitating bureaucratic procedures.

The young woman, originally from the Gran Canaria municipality of Santa Brígida, was studying her fourth year of Early Childhood Education at the University of Granada. She had traveled to Mexico in August to participate in an academic exchange at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM), where she continued her education.

The Prosecutor's Office seeks the maximum penalty for femicide

The Morelos prosecutor, Fernando Blumenkron, has announced that the detainee will be charged with the crime of femicide and that the Prosecutor's Office will seek the maximum penalty for him, up to 70 years in prison.

Claudia Tacoronte was stabbed to death last Saturday in Cuautla. The investigation opened by the Mexican authorities allowed the identification of the alleged perpetrator and the issuance of an arrest warrant before his detention was confirmed.
