Male chauvinist violence leaves a black day with three murders in Spain: investigations open in Alicante, Toledo and Malaga

July 21, 2026, three alleged murders of women by their partners, Alicante, Toledo, and Barcelona. Three different territories, three open investigations, and the same reality that once again shakes: gender violence continues to claim victims and force society to confront a scourge that does not cease. In just a few hours, security forces have begun inquiries to determine if three deaths are related to gender violence.

The first case is in Almoradí (Alicante), where the Civil Guard is investigating the death of a 56-year-old woman as a possible femicide. Her lifeless body was found on Monday night, around 11:00 p.m., in a home in the town center. The victim, of Spanish nationality, was found dead, and agents proceeded to arrest her husband, a 61-year-old man. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has reported that it is gathering information to determine the nature of the case.

Hours later, in Alameda de la Sagra (Toledo), another woman was allegedly murdered by her partner. The aggression took place in the early morning, around 5:16 a.m., in a home located in the Plaza de España in the town, where the 48-year-old man allegedly attacked the victim with a bladed weapon. The Civil Guard proceeded to arrest him, and the Judicial Police of Toledo has taken charge of the investigation, with gender violence as the main hypothesis. The woman was not listed in the Viogen system, and there were no previous records of similar incidents.

The third episode under investigation occurred in a home in Benahavís (Málaga) when a woman was found dead with signs of violence. On the other hand, in Barcelona, a deceased man was found who had a current restraining order against a woman. The Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating what happened during the early morning in the Ciutat Vella district, after receiving a call about a loud argument on the Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta around 3:25 a.m. The man was injured by a bladed weapon and later died in a hospital. He was initially arrested for an alleged crime of breach of sentence for having violated the restraining order.

Several separate events in different parts of Spain that once again place gender violence at the center of the debate and recall the importance of prevention, early detection, and protection of victims. Thus, the fight against gender violence continues to be a collective responsibility to prevent more women from being murdered for being women.
