The electricity bill for an average consumer becomes significantly cheaper in March thanks to fiscal measures, which compensate for the rise in electricity prices in the wholesale market. The average electricity bill for a consumer on the regulated tariff (PVPC) stood in March at around 46 euros, which represents a fall close to 28% relative to the same month of the previous year.
The key to this reduction lies in the tax reduction. The VAT on electricity remains at 10%, compared to the general rate of 21%, to which is added the reduction of the Special Tax on Electricity and the suspension of the generation tax, measures that have significantly reduced the final cost for consumers.
Despite this relief in the bill, the wholesale market price has registered increases during March, pressured by factors such as the rising cost of gas and the international situation. Without the tax cuts, the bill would have been notably higher.
