The Spanish stock market is attempting to recover the 20,000 points barrier this Tuesday after the setback recorded in the previous session. The Ibex 35 began the session with an advance of 0.08%, reaching 19,997.5 points, in a context marked by investors' attention to the evolution of the situation in the Middle East.
The initial rebound represents a rise of 15.6 points for the main Spanish stock market index. Despite market uncertainty, the selective index maintains a positive balance so far this year, with an accumulated revaluation of 15.54%.
Within the Ibex, Solaria led the gains with an advance of 2.04%, followed by Repsol, which added 1.22%, and ArcelorMittal, with a rise of 1.20%. At the opposite extreme, Amadeus led the losses with a decrease of 1.06%, while Grifols fell 0.86% and IAG retreated 0.78%.
Among the major Spanish market values, advances also predominated. Telefónica rose 0.49%, BBVA gained 0.48%, and Inditex advanced 0.28%. For its part, Iberdrola dropped 0.10% and Banco Santander retreated 0.22%.
The opening comes after a negative Monday for the Madrid Stock Exchange, which lost 0.87% and recorded the largest decline among the main European markets. Across the Atlantic, Wall Street also closed in the red: the S&P 500 fell 0.52%, the Dow Jones 0.51%, and the Nasdaq 0.32%.
Middle East once again sets the pace for markets
The evolution of the situation in the Middle East is once again focusing investors' attention. The market began the day awaiting information released by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Agency, which reported that a projectile had hit a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the main maritime routes for international oil transport.
The episode adds a new source of uncertainty to markets that remain particularly sensitive to any escalation in the region and its possible effects on energy supply and crude oil prices.
