The number of Spanish citizens deceased after the earthquakes registered a week ago in Venezuela continues to increase. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, reported this Thursday that there are now 29 Spanish fatalities, while highlighting that the field hospital deployed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) is already operational to assist the affected population.
Through a message published on the social network X, Albares indicated that the START team of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) is already operational on the ground. The health device has begun to provide assistance to the injured with the aim of reinforcing response capacity in the areas most affected by the earthquakes.

We deploy the field hospital to help the Venezuelan brotherly people.
My condolences and solidarity to the relatives and friends of the 29 deceased Spaniards. https://t.co/wiZKKlqlMqAccording to the latest balance provided by the Venezuelan authorities, the earthquakes have left so far 2,595 dead and more than 12,400 injured, while rescue and assistance efforts for those affected continue. The Venezuelan Government estimates that the cost of reconstruction will exceed 6.7 billion dollars.
Spain reinforces aid on the ground
The deployment of the field hospital of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) is part of the humanitarian response activated by the Government after the catastrophe. The 'START' team has already begun to operate in Venezuela with specialized health personnel and capacity to attend to both emergencies and surgical interventions.
The device is made up of professionals from different specialties, including surgery, traumatology, gynecology, obstetric care, and psychological support. Its objective is to reinforce healthcare in areas where the health system has been most compromised by the magnitude of the disaster and the high number of displaced people.
Before leaving for Venezuela, the contingent was seen off at the Madrid air base by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, along with Queen Letizia. During that event, the head of Foreign Affairs highlighted the response capacity of the 'START' team and announced additional aid of 300,000 euros destined for the acquisition of shelter material for families who have lost their homes.
