The humanitarian response to the earthquakes that have struck Venezuela continues to gain strength thanks to the mobilization of organizations integrated into the Spanish Emergency Committee. Just a few hours after the earthquakes, the alliance activated its action mechanism to channel aid from citizens, companies, and institutions, converting solidarity into essential resources for those who have lost everything.

Since then, the eight NGOs that are part of the committee —Acción contra el Hambre, Aldeas Infantiles SOS, Educo, Entreculturas, Médicos del Mundo, Oxfam Intermón, Plan International, and World Vision— have been working on the ground to address the most urgent needs. Their work focuses on ensuring access to food, drinking water, sanitation, temporary shelter, and psychological support, especially among the most vulnerable groups.

The citizen response in Spain has already raised more than 631,000 euros, a figure that will be distributed among humanitarian organizations to strengthen their interventions. Behind each contribution is a chain of aid that reaches displaced families, children who need to regain safe spaces, and communities seeking to rebuild a normality broken by the emergency.

“The solidarity response from society has been enormous, and for this reason, from the Emergency Committee, we want to thank all the people who have collaborated with us. To date, we have raised funds worth 631,666 euros, which are distributed equally among the 8 international NGOs, specialists in humanitarian aid, that make up this alliance,” explained Sara Barbeira, director of the Emergency Committee.

Children occupy a priority place in this joint action. The entities are deploying psychosocial support programs, identification and protection of minors who have been separated from their families, as well as adapted spaces for children and adolescents to be able to play, learn, and feel protected again. Amidst the uncertainty, these places become small refuges where hope once again finds its way.

Organizations are also enabling temporary shelters for those who have lost their homes and distributing hygiene kits, blankets, drinking water, and essential items. At the same time, health teams and mental health specialists are reinforcing care for a population facing not only the material consequences of the earthquakes but also the emotional impact they leave behind.

Dozens of companies, media outlets, and institutions have joined this mobilization, putting their resources at the service of the humanitarian appeal. In moments when the earth shakes and uncertainty settles in thousands of homes, the coordinated action of NGOs demonstrates that solidarity can also be a form of reconstruction: silent, constant, and capable of building bridges between those who need help and those who are willing to offer it.
