Amazon has responded to judge Juan Carlos Peinado, who is investigating the case related to Begoña Gómez, indicating that the request for information made by the magistrate does not conform to the established legal procedures for requesting data from a foreign company. Peinado asked Amazon in October for all details about the registered domains associated with the extraordinary chair of Competitive Social Transformation at the Complutense University that the wife of the Prime Minister co-directed.
The company has explained that, as it is a company based outside of Spain, any judicial request must be processed through the international cooperation mechanisms and the corresponding diplomatic channels.
This response represents a new obstacle for the progress of the investigation led by Judge Peinado, who had requested from Amazon certain data related to the case affecting the wife of the President of the Government.
According to the company, the request should have been made through the procedures provided for in the international agreements on judicial assistance, which regulate how courts can request information from companies based in other countries.
