The Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños, defended this Friday that the Government has provided "all the documentation and information" to comply with the precautionary measure agreed by the Supreme Court, which restricts the right to vote for those naturalized under the so-called grandchildren's law who do not prove that they descend from exiles.

"There is a precautionary measure, everyone knows it and it must be applied. We have provided all the documentation and all the information we have so that it is complied with," said Félix Bolaños in his speech at an informative event of Artículo 14.

The minister added that in the consulates "everything humanly possible will be done to comply with the Supreme Court's resolution" and focused on the 160,000 people who, he stressed, will be affected by the suspension, "beyond the legal issue."

In this context, Félix Bolaños claimed that the Democratic Memory Law recognizes nationality for those who were forced to exile from Spain during the Franco dictatorship, and recalled that this position, he pointed out, was defended by the Popular Party in its electoral program and by its leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in public statements.

"There cannot be first and second-class Spaniards," remarked the head of Justice, who insisted that "all nationals must have the right to vote" in accordance with the Constitution.

No link of the PSOE with the alleged pressures on Beatriz Biedma

Asked about the investigation by the Audiencia Nacional within the framework of the Leire Díez case and about the alleged pressures on judge Beatriz Biedma for her investigation into the brother of the President of the Government, the minister referred to two orders from the investigating judge, Santiago Pedraz, in which, he highlighted, "there is no evidence" nor "any indication" linking the PSOE to this matter.

Given the latest complaints of harassment made by judge Beatriz Biedma, Félix Bolaños showed his support for "any public official" so that they can do their work "with total freedom of criteria" and "with the necessary means."

Furthermore, he maintained that judges, prosecutors, national police, and civil guards "have been able to do their work freely, without any interference or pressure" compared to previous stages, in which, he said, governments like that of the PP created a "patriotic police for the State to work in favor of a party."

The pardon of Álvaro García Ortiz is still under study

On the other hand, Félix Bolaños reiterated that the pardon file for the former Attorney General of the State Álvaro García Ortiz, convicted of revealing secrets, is still under study, before raising the proposal to the Council of Ministers, although he did not specify when that analysis could conclude.
