The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, announced this Friday that the region is lowering the emergency to Operational Situation 1 after the train accident in Urda, while specifying that the number of fatalities remains at 69, although he admitted that the figure could exceed 70 and that there are still remains to be identified.
García-Page made this announcement at a press conference held in Toledo alongside the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, after the meeting of the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi).
“We do not rule out that they could exceed 70”
The head of the Castilian-Manchegan Executive explained that it is not yet possible to confirm this possible variation in the victim count and appealed for prudence. “We do not rule out that they could exceed 70, but we also could not verify it and it is always preferable to adhere to the protocol,” said Emiliano García-Page.
In parallel, the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, through the Ministry of Finance, Public Administrations and Digital Transformation, has agreed to lower the Territorial Emergency Plan of Castilla-La Mancha (Platecam), in Emergency Phase, to Operational Situation 1 for the province of Toledo.
From Operational Situation 2 to the plan reduction
The regional Executive raised the Platecam to Emergency Phase, Operational Situation 2 last Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., after requesting the activation of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), to intervene in the registered railway accident.
Since then, the deployed device has maintained attention on the tasks linked to the incident, while work continues to complete the identification of the remains located in the affected area.
