The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has taken advantage of his intervention in the control session of the Executive to announce the approval of a new Royal Decree-Law aimed at supporting the productive fabric and citizens after the ceasefire reached between the United States and Iran.

Although the announcement already has a date, the content of the measures is not yet finalized. According to sources from the Executive, meetings with parliamentary groups and potentially affected sectors are currently ongoing, so a large part of the package remains “to be defined”.

The same sources explain that the new text, which will subsequently have to be validated by Congress, will follow a similar line to the decree approved last March. That package included 80 measures valued at 5,000 million euros with the aim of cushioning the economic impact derived from the international crisis.

On that occasion, Sánchez defended that Spain would become the country with the “largest social and economic shield in the entire European Union” in the face of a situation that the Government then described as a consequence of an “illegal war that we do not endorse.” Now, with the cessation of hostilities announced in the region, La Moncloa intends to maintain that same economic protection approach.

“Your Honor, that is what this Government is doing, governing for the people,” Sánchez affirmed from the Congress rostrum. The president also took advantage of his intervention to reproach the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, that his party “systematically votes against these measures.”

The Executive trusts that the new decree can gather the necessary parliamentary support to move forward in a legislature in which each vote has become a negotiation with its usual partners.
