Compromís-Frente Amplio has demanded from the coalition Government the urgent approval of a decree of aid for the "hundreds" of people affected by the dana Adam, which is hitting Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, and has maintained that the management of this climate emergency has highlighted the "uselessness" of the former Valencian president with the 2024 dana.
In a press conference, the Compromís deputy attached to Sumar, Alberto Ibáñez, has insisted that the Executive approve a decree of aid that can be validated in the next Permanent Deputation of the Congress, still without a fixed date, with the aim of supporting the families of the victims and those who have lost their homes, their cars and their businesses, or have seen their fields damaged, in addition to collaborating in the restoration of affected municipal and regional infrastructures.
Criticism of the PP for the management of the 2024 dana
Ibáñez has also taken the opportunity to ask the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to expel the former Valencian president Alberto Mazón from the party and from the parliamentary group in the Valencian Cortes because, as he has pointed out, the management of this weekend's dana has revealed his "uselessness, indolence and passivity" when he had to face the 2024 dana, which claimed the lives of more than 200 people.
"As has been seen now, an Es-Alert could have been sent. In fact, from Saturday to Monday six messages were sent with precise indications that would have avoided a large part" of the deaths two years ago, "and, as has been seen now, the population could have been confined without a State of Alarm," highlighted the Valencian deputy.
Also from Más Madrid, deputy Tesh Sidi has stressed that the dana Adam has shown that in 2024 the loss of "many" lives could have been avoided just by Mazón having sent an Es-Alert, while calling it a "shame" that the PP kept him at the head of the Valencian Government despite that "error", that he continues to occupy a seat in the Valencian Cortes and that he continues to participate in party events.
Podemos accuses the PP of "necropolitics"
In this vein, the general secretary of Podemos, Ione Belarra, has accused the Valencian PP, "with Mazón or not at the head," of continuing to maintain a "necropolitics" that puts the lives of millions of Valencians at risk every year.
"They have continued a policy that allows construction in flood zones and that prioritizes housing speculation over people's lives," Belarra denounced, emphasizing that they should have learned something from the terrible DANA of 2024.
Belarra concluded by sending a message to the victims' families to keep fighting and struggling until they see Mazón "where he needs to be, in jail," and to find "truth, justice, and reparation."
