Alejandro Hamlyn, a fugitive from Spanish Justice since 2025 and who held a videoconference meeting in February of that year with former socialist militant Leire Díez, in which he asked her for information about a UCO commander, has been arrested today by Interpol in Abu Dhabi, where he was fleeing justice.

This businessman was arrested this past Monday by Interpol agents, with the intention of an extradition request issued by the fourth section of the Audiencia Nacional for not appearing in the trial in which his company, Hafesa, was condemned to a fine of 152.4 million euros for tax crimes committed between 2016 and 2019, according to EFE.

As of today, extradition procedures to Spain are being initiated, which, according to sources close to the investigation, could take several months. But it is not the only investigation in which Hamlyn was involved, as the businessman, a fugitive since 2025 in Dubai, was also investigated in a case related to drug trafficking led by Central Investigating Court number 1, in which a police officer who was assigned to the Audiencia Nacional was also charged.

This police officer, investigated for allegedly having provided information to drug traffickers' lawyers about the procedures in which their clients were included, was also linked to Hamlyn due to the suspicion that the businessman would have paid him to destroy evidence incriminating him in the tax fraud for which he is being prosecuted.

On the other hand, this businessman from Biscay was also linked to former socialist militant Leire Díez, who is being investigated in relation to an alleged plot that would seek to boycott judicial procedures that would affect the PSOE or the Government. Alejandro Hamlyn met via videoconference with Leire Díez, businessman Pérez Dolset, and lawyer Jacobo Teijelo in February 2025. In that meeting, both requested information about UCO commander Antonio Balas, who has led some of these investigations.
