The defense of Begoña Gómez has requested the annulment of the order issued by judge Juan Carlos Peinado, in which he proposes to take her to trial, considering that the crimes attributed to her “are not proven” and that the investigation was closed with an “unusual speed”. Furthermore, the brief harshly criticizes that the magistrate has compared the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, with Fernando VII, calling this reference “unacceptable” and questioning the impartiality of the procedure.
In parallel, the popular accusation headed by Hazte Oír has requested a sentence of 24 years in prison for Gómez, in addition to precautionary measures such as the withdrawal of the passport and the prohibition from leaving the country given an alleged “risk of flight”. In its brief, it also requests the opening of an oral trial for alleged crimes of influence peddling, business corruption, embezzlement, and misappropriation.
The organization extends its petition to other investigated parties in the case, such as the advisor Cristina Álvarez, for whom it demands 22 and a half years in prison, and the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, for whom it requests six years in prison. Likewise, it proposes that the three have the obligation to appear periodically before the court, while the judicial procedure continues to advance in a key phase.
