The former socialist militant Leire Díez has filed a complaint against the Partido Popular (PP) for the video created with Artificial Intelligence (AI) that the party disseminated this week, in which a false version of her image was attributed "to have hired thugs to get rid of a judge", in a veiled allusion to magistrate Beatriz Biedma, who investigated David Sánchez, brother of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

In a document sent to the Audiencia Nacional and to which Europa Press has had access, Díez's lawyer, Eva Bejarano, files the complaint against the PP for alleged crimes of slander with publicity, against moral integrity and digital identity theft.

As a precautionary measure, the former socialist militant requests the provisional withdrawal of the video "from all accounts and digital spaces owned or controlled" by the PP in which it appears published, as well as from any other natural or legal person.

The context of Santiago Pedraz's investigation

Díez addresses this document to the judge of the Audiencia Nacional Santiago Pedraz, who is investigating an alleged plot to destabilize judicial cases affecting the PSOE, the Government and relatives of Pedro Sánchez, and which, according to the judicial investigation, would have been directed by former socialist leader Santos Cerdán and coordinated by Díez herself.

This Wednesday, the PP published a video made with AI in which appeared, among others, Leire Díez, Begoña Gómez, wife of the head of the Executive, former Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos, former socialist leader Santos Cerdán and former President of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, all of them indicted in different judicial cases.

“Categorically false facts”

“If hiring thugs to get rid of a judge is leftist, then yes, I am leftist,” said Leire Díez's fake avatar in the video disseminated by the PP.

The piece, in turn, parodied a sequence that the PSOE had published that same morning on its social networks, in which Pedro Sánchez, taking advantage of the visit to Spain by the Argentine president, Javier Milei, ironized with the term “leftist”, used by Milei to attack left-wing politicians. “If raising pensions is being leftist, I am leftist,” said the President of the Government.

In this context, Díez's defense argues that the video, created “expressly and intentionally to humiliate, vex, and cause a serious detriment to the dignity” of the former socialist militant, has exceeded 21 million views.

The legal representation of the plaintiff emphasizes that “the facts and statements contained in said publication are absolutely and categorically false”, and adds that the PP “acted with full knowledge of the falsity of the disseminated data and with a reckless disregard for the truth”, with the sole and unequivocal purpose of undermining Díez's honor and dignity.

Allegations of personal and family harm

Leire Díez states that, as a consequence of the publication, she and her daughters “have had to isolate themselves at home”, that they have suffered “an anxiety attack” and that she is “being subjected to all kinds of insults, disqualifications, and vexations”.

Furthermore, she argues that the video's continued presence on the internet is causing “irreparable, devastating, and immediate harm” to her honor, social reputation, family environment, and professional sphere, as it is massively perceived as “a real confession of a criminal act”.
