The judge of the Audiencia Nacional Ismael Moreno has summoned this Wednesday two key figures of the investigation that continues after the Supreme Court's ruling in the mask case. On the one hand, the Civil Guard sub-lieutenant who, in the trial of José Luis Ábalos, pointed out the "permanent access" of the commissioner Víctor de Aldama to the Ministry of Transport; on the other, the owner of Soluciones de Gestión, the company that focuses a good part of the mask plot.
The sub-lieutenant, assigned to the security of Nuevos Ministerios, already appeared in the complaint of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office that originated this case, which included alleged "meetings" held with Koldo García between 2022 and 2023. Investigators suspect that this contact links him to the Cueto Group, a company that, according to the Prosecutor's Office, "controls the activity of Soluciones de Gestión." Anti-Corruption maintains that this relationship "directly connects the highest level of contract management" with one of the companies where part of the profits would have been invested, linked to a slate business.
At the head of Soluciones de Gestión is formally Rotaeche, one of the four arrested when the investigation began along with Koldo García and Aldama. The UCO, however, considers that the true owner of the company is Juan Carlos Cueto, who would have avoided appearing as such as he was already investigated in the 'Defex case'.
Three recently indicted individuals summoned for July 20
After these two appearances, Moreno has set a new round of statements for next July 20, in which Jéssica Rodríguez, Ábalos's ex-partner; Joseba García, Koldo García's brother; and Ignacio Zaldívar, former senior official of Adif, are summoned. The three have been recently indicted in this separate piece, for the alleged placement of Rodríguez in the public companies Ineco and Tragsatec. According to investigators, Rodríguez would have played a relevant role in connecting Juan Carlos Cueto with the commissioner Aldama and with those responsible for the awarding of the investigated contracts.
