The judge who investigated Sánchez's brother asks to appear as an "injured party" in the Leire Díez case and states: "Actions aimed at obtaining information about her person"

Judge Beatriz Biedma, who was in charge of the investigation into the case against the brother of the Prime Minister, David Sánchez, has asked Judge Santiago Pedraz to appear in the case against former socialist militant Leire Díez.

The case being investigated by Pedraz has to do with the alleged plot to obstruct judicial investigations that could affect the Government or the PSOE, in which the alleged involvement of former socialist leader Santos Cerdán is being studied.

In this regard, as reported by the news agency 'Europa Press', Biedma maintains that she has a "condition of being harmed" in the case "on a personal level", considering that, according to existing evidence, she would have been the object "of actions aimed at obtaining information about her person, discrediting her publicly and professionally, promoting complaints and grievances against her, gathering information about her environment and removing her from specific judicial procedures."

The magistrate considers that this condition also affects the institutional sphere, "inasmuch as said actions appear directly connected with her condition" as instructor of the case against the brother of the Prime Minister, sentenced by the Provincial Court of Badajoz to nine years of disqualification for prevarication.

In this context, Biedma points out that the evidence known so far indicates that the purpose of the alleged plot would have been "to neutralize, disturb or even destroy the judicial procedure whose instruction she was entrusted with." Therefore, she insists that she "was directly affected" by the actions that are the subject of investigation.

The judge also includes a reference from the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard included in one of its reports: "Another of the lines of action developed by the organization targeted magistrate Beatriz Biedma."

The document adds that "according to the already known elements of the investigation, a specific activity of obtaining and collecting information related to the magistrate, her personal, family and professional environment, as well as an intense discredit campaign developed through complaints, publications and actions disseminated in digital media and social networks, was carried out."

In relation to Leire Díez, the magistrate maintains that "it would have been Leire Díez herself who indicated" to former judge Luis José Sáenz de Tejada that he "promote complaints against this magistrate before the State Attorney General's Office, understanding that she had the capacity to influence said institution."

Biedma also refers to an annotation that appeared in Díez's agenda "days after the recusal promoted by Sáenz de Tejada was rejected". In the magistrate's opinion, it could be "a last and desperate strategy to remove the magistrate from the procedure, these being very serious acts that could endanger not only her reputation, but even her own physical integrity."

According to the information alluded to in the document, said annotation "would be related to investigations that the magistrate was directing about clans dedicated to drug trafficking". From these elements, Biedma claims to have learned "of the existence of contacts promoted by the alleged criminal group investigated with people linked to a well-known clan settled in the city of Badajoz with the purpose of acting against the magistrate."

The judge herself specifies, however, that "the specific scope of such contacts and their real purpose must be the subject of the corresponding judicial investigation," although she considers that "the seriousness of this point is evident."

Especially, she adds, "if it were confirmed that such approaches were related to obtaining information, generating hostility towards the appearing party or any other action tending to pressure her, discredit her or compromise her personal safety due to the exercise of her jurisdictional functions."

In a ruling also accessed by Europa Press, Judge José Luis Pedraz acknowledges receipt of the document presented by Biedma and transfers it to the Prosecutor's Office for a decision on the request made by the magistrate.
