The Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard has considered that the general director of the Civil Guard, Mercedes González, was aware of the activities of former socialist militant Leire Díez. The case summary places Díez and the former PSOE Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdán, at the center of an alleged operation aimed at obtaining sensitive information and acting on judicial investigations affecting the PSOE, the Government, and the circle of President Pedro Sánchez. In this regard, González admitted to having held several meetings with the former militant.

In this vein, the latest UCO report includes the message Díez sent to Koldo García's former lawyer, Ismael Oliver – also investigated in the case – in which she wrote: "Yesterday's meeting with the GC director wasn't bad. I'm going to see if I can keep expanding that avenue." According to the agents, this refers to April 2, 2025, the third and last meeting between the two women, and what stands out is Leire's identification of an avenue related to the general director of the Civil Guard. Therefore, they determine that González was aware of her activities.

For the UCO, Oliver's reply messages evidence his accusation, as he responded: "I'm very happy. Let's see if at least we can stop the lynching and face it with some equality of arms."

Leire Díez informed Santos Cerdán

A recent report by the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, delivered to the Audiencia Nacional, indicates that Leire Díez informed Santos Cerdán about the actions she carried out within the alleged plot. In this regard, they maintain that, among the papers Cerdán left in Ferraz, a document of "non-compliance" by Leire Díez was found, which included actions that had not worked, such as trying to reach an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office for the former commissioner accused in the 'Kitchen case' José Manuel Villarejo.

The agents have located in Cerdán's personal notes references to possible strategies related to other judicial cases. Among them, a black notebook includes the phrase "'BADAJOZ that the prosecutor's office supports the (sic) recusal", linked to attempts at procedural action.

The UCO also records the existence of meetings between former judge José Luis Sáenz de Tejada and Leire Díez in a property financed by the former president of SEPI Vicente Fernández, which some witnesses describe as a “PSOE safe house.” In that meeting, the magistrate allegedly criticized judge Beatriz Biedma and other members of the judiciary, in addition to unsuccessfully promoting attempts to appear and recuse the investigating judge. A complaint against the magistrate was also allegedly drafted, supposedly supervised by Díez, which ended up being sent to the Prosecutor's Office.

Likewise, the report mentions Cerdán's notes related to a possible strategy in the hydrocarbon case, focused on the search for nullities based on actions by an investigated Civil Guard captain, Juan Sánchez Yepes, with the intention of extending their effects to other judicial cases. One of the seized agendas includes the annotation: “Jacobo said, ask for nullity in the case of his client Yepes.”

On the other hand, the UCO has revealed that the PSOE would have financed up to six trips —mostly round trips— by former militant Leire Díez between April and August 2024, the last of them for a meeting with Villarejo, to whom she allegedly tried to propose an agreement in exchange for information.

According to the 107-page report, investigators also highlight that the former Organization Secretary would have given verbal instructions for any trip requested by Díez to be considered authorized. The document, to which ‘EFE’ has had access, also includes new findings on trips paid for by the party structure and payments to law firms and other individuals, following the UCO's intervention at the socialist headquarters on May 27 and the seizure of documentation.

The summary of the ‘Leire Díez case’ places former socialist militant Leire Díez and the former Organization Secretary of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, at the center of an alleged operation aimed at obtaining sensitive information and acting on judicial investigations affecting the PSOE, the Government, and the circle of President Pedro Sánchez. The investigation by the Civil Guard's Central Operative Unit (UCO) points to the existence of a network of contacts and intermediaries who would have tried to gather compromising data about investigators, prosecutors, and other people linked to various cases that affect the PSOE.
